Super Easy French Onion Soup

Makes 4 bowls. It doesn't get any easier than this!


  • 1 jar YUMYIN

  • 1 clove garlic

  • 1 cup dry white wine

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 3-4 cups chicken or vegetable stock (how thick do you like your soup)

  • 2 springs thyme

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 4 slices crusty bread or baguette

  • 1 cup (3 ounces) freshly grated Gruyere cheese

  • Salt & Pepper to taste


  1. On the stovetop in a medium size pot on medium high add: YUMYIN, Garlic, Butter, Wine, and salt to taste. Bring to a simmer for 5 minutes. The YUMYIN should be absorbing the wine. 

  2. Add the chicken stock to the pot and simmer for 10-15 more minutes.

  3. Divide the onions and broth among 4 broiler safe bowl and place on a baking sheet (be sure the onions are evenly divided onion hog)

  4. Turn your oven to broil

  5. Toast the bread quickly (1 minute) in the oven then cover each bowl with a slice of bread

  6. Sprinkle grated cheese on the bread, maybe a bit into the bowl too.

  7. Broil until the cheese is golden and bubbling, 2-3 minutes
